Discovering the Healing Properties of the Jungle from the Maleku Tribe

Traveling around the world for the Unmade Beds series, Lisa Haisha visited with the Maleku Tribe in Costa Rica. As part of her journey, she toured the jungle to learn about the medicinal qualities of the indigenous plant life.

The Maleku Tribe is an indigenous tribe of Costa Rica. The range of their influence in the country was vast until the Spanish colonization. Their population has progressively dwindled to less than 600, making their tribe, language and culture in danger of disappearing entirely. The Maleku are incredibly generous and kind, despite their many struggles.
