Meet Your Dominant Imposter: The Fixer

Your Dominant Imposter isn’t who you are.

It’s the survival strategy you’ve relied on most often.

Everyone has an inner cast. Over thirty years of working with people, I noticed seven survival strategies that appeared again and again. Eventually, I gave them names.

The Fixer was born the moment you believed that being needed was the safest way to be loved. What began as kindness eventually became a way of earning your worth.

The moment you recognize The Fixer’s voice, something changes. You remember that your value isn’t measured by how much you do for others. You are enough, even when you’re simply being.

Core Belief

“If I take care of everyone else, they’ll love me.”

The Fixer feels responsible for everyone else’s happiness. It anticipates needs, solves problems, and often puts others first—believing that love must be earned through service.

Recognition

You may notice yourself:

  • Feeling responsible for other people’s emotions.
  • Saying “yes” when you really want to say “no.”
  • Giving advice before someone asks for it.
  • Feeling guilty when you put yourself first.
  • Becoming exhausted from carrying everyone else’s burdens.
  • Wondering why people don’t take care of you the way you take care of them.

The Gift

Every Imposter begins as a gift.

The Fixer is generous, dependable, and deeply compassionate.

It genuinely wants to ease suffering and make life better for others.

Guided by your Authentic Soul, compassion becomes loving support instead of self-sacrifice.

The Cost

When The Fixer keeps the microphone for too long, your own needs disappear.

Relationships become unbalanced.

Resentment quietly grows beneath generosity.

You begin to believe your worth depends on how useful you are.

Love becomes something you earn instead of something you receive.

Meet Your Authentic Soul

Your Authentic Soul knows that love isn’t something you have to earn.

It understands that caring for yourself isn’t selfish—it’s essential.

Instead of asking,
“Who needs me?”

it quietly asks,
“What do I need right now?”

That question returns you to the Director’s Chair.

Remember…

This is only one member of your inner cast.

You may recognize yourself in several Imposters because we all call on different survival strategies throughout life.

Your Dominant Imposter is simply the one that reaches for the microphone most often.

The moment you recognize The Fixer, you’ve already begun to move beyond it. Awareness is how your Authentic Soul returns to the Director’s Chair.

The Approval Seekers

The Fixer belongs to the Approval Seekers.

Approval Seekers develop when love feels conditional. Their goal isn’t to manipulate others—it’s to earn acceptance and belonging.

The Fixer seeks approval by becoming indispensable.

Its companion is The Seductor, who seeks approval by becoming irresistible.

Different strategies. The same longing.

Both are trying to earn love.

You don’t have an anger problem.

You don’t have a relationship problem.

You don’t have a confidence problem.

You have the wrong character holding the microphone.

The moment you recognize who’s speaking, you can choose who leads.
